Energy Surge! 34 Weeks

I’m 34 weeks pregnant! Running and life in general have been wonderful the past few weeks.

Let’s start with running: Ever since the 32 week mark, I’ve had a surge of energy (hello nesting) and my runs have felt easier and lighter (even though I’m getting heavier)!

Pic from 33 weeks pregnant. Feeling awesome!

I’ve been running 3-4 miles a day, and could go farther but figure that’s plenty. I get lots of exercise running around with Currie all day and there’s no need to go crazy since I have no running goals for the near future! For the most part, temperatures have been in the mid 60s on my runs so I haven’t been overheating and that’s definitely helped me feel better!

Onto life stuff:  Do you know we’ve been traveling around since the end of June when we sold our house in NY? We’ve been to the beach, we lived in Seattle for 3 weeks, we’ve spent time with friends and family in Ohio, and we done lots of house hunting in Pittsburgh!

Right now, we are in a hotel in Pittsburgh since we still don’t own a home. The good news is that we found a house and will be moving in officially on September 3rd. Too bad I haven’t been able to use any of this extra energy on getting our house ready. We will move in just about a month before Baby Boy Bigham is due. Hopefully the energy spike lasts!

Currie and I took a stroller run past our soon-to-be house Monday morning!

I really don’t like to complain about pregnancy because it’s all really wonderful and I feel lucky to have pretty “easy” pregnancies so far. But, in case you were wondering, the downsides of this part of pregnancy are:

  • I feel like I have to pee almost constantly, especially when running.
  • I get winded really easily. Going up stairs is a joke.
  • I have hip/sacrum discomfort if I’m standing too long. (clamshell exercise actually relieves this for me!)
  • I’m uncomfortable when sitting as my belly gets bigger.

Other than that, things are going great! I’m starting to plan post pregnancy running, racing, strength and coaching and sometimes I get so excited I forget how pregnant I really am!

Is it acceptable to stalk your new house until you move in? I’m headed out to run by it again today!

When did you get a surge of energy (if ever!) during pregnancy?

  1. ha! I totally stalked our house (mostly while running) before we moved in :)

And I can only hope that I get a surge of energy at some point during my pregnancy (when that happens)!

  2. LOVE the shadow photo! That is a picture to frame! and super cute house! My sister’s in-laws live in Mt. Lebanon.

  3. You look great Jen! I love your house too. Waiting must be excruciating. I live in south central PA (near Carlisle). Hope we can meet some day as fellow Oiselle runners.

  4. Jen,

I’m so glad to hear that you are feeling great! I think I’m just over 10 weeks behind you (I’ll be 24 weeks on Friday!). I’m amazed that you can run everyday! I was feeling great on my runs over the past month, but unfortunately, running might be over for me (gasp!). I have been having such severe pelvic pain in my bones, that I can barely walk after my runs, which is so sad, because I’ve been feeling amazing! I’m a little concerned about developing a pelvic stress fracture, so I’m now only trying to run maybe 3 mi, 3 days a week and cross train on my other days. Did you ever have this problem?!

You look fantastic, and I look forward to hearing how the rest of your pregnancy goes! Good luck with your running and your new house!

    • Oh no Suzanne! I’m so sorry you are having severe pain in your pelvis! I get SI joint/pelvis pain daily, but it’s more at night before bed after being on my feet all day and I wouldn’t call it severe. :( I think you are being so smart taking the time easy and mostly cross training now. Running through pain during pregnancy isn’t worth it. It’s much better to feel great after giving birth and start with a fresh mind, and body!

  5. I’m so happy for you Jen and you are seriously glowing. I can’t even imagine moving around so much over the summer but I bet it was an absolute blast and I’m so glad you found the house. Stalking is welcome for sure. 😉

  6. I absolutely run-stalked our new house in the weeks before we moved in. Totally, 100% fine. (I actually sometimes parked my car a few houses down from it to start my run, because I was so psyched to try out my new soon-to-be-regular running routes!

Energy levels weren’t a noticeable problem during my first pregnancy, as I worked an office job at the time and had no other kids (other than our dog!), so running was my only physical activity. This time around (and I’m only at 13 weeks), I’m a stay-at-home mom with a 2-year old, trying to run decent mileage / entertain a toddler in the heat of the South Texas summer, and I am POOPED by 5p every afternoon. Hoping things pick up soon, as my daughter still has lots of bounce left in her at 5p!

    Love reading your blog!

    • Thanks Katherine! Yes, it’s harder this time watching a toddler… I feel you there! I drink coffee this time around and I didn’t last, and that probably helps me make it through many days! :) My 3 year old is a little ball of energy too!

  7. You look great! So glad to hear you’re feeling great. I am 17 weeks along now and my fingers are crossed that I will be able to continue running, like you have. Lots of luck with the move and getting settled in your new home.

    • I hope you can too Dana, but if for some reason you can’t, you will find it again after giving birth so there’s always something to look forward to!!

    • So another energy surge should be coming for me any day I hope. :) Almost 36 weeks now! Fingers crossed! Yes, Currie is getting so excited for the baby! I hope the excitement lingers after he’s born. :)
